2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Transition Follows Lukewarm Reception
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the need for a clearer game identity.
The president noted that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to better meet community desires.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire text from Ismailer's memo:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and talented developers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our fans.
The belief in this project increases every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the incoming Director of the team. After several months of conversations, he officially joins us on next week.
His guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having dedicated the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in receiving him next week. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the development of Project ETHOS in the weeks to come.
The President
