American Military Targeted a 'Major Facility' in Venezuela, President Trump Claimed Without Offering Specifics.

Former President Trump has claimed that American forces targeted a "significant installation" in the South American country last week. But, the ex-leader did not specify the precise nature or location of the target, and there has been no further clarification from his camp.

Unspecific Comments Made In a Radio Show

"US forces just knocked out – I don't know if you saw – they have a major complex, where the vessels originate. Two nights ago, we knocked that out. So we struck them with significant force," Trump reportedly told Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Potential Significance of a Confirmed Attack

If a US strike were to be confirmed, it would mark the initial land strike since the Pentagon initiated a increase of US military presence in the Caribbean region to interdict drug traffickers that the former administration claims operate under the direction of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The stated objective of the military buildup has since morphed into a quarantine aimed at hindering the nation's oil exports.

Social Media Footage and Official Claims

Trump has for weeks indicated that American military units are prepared to expand the operations by striking objectives within Venezuela, a move that would in theory require legislative approval.

Online video shared online on 24 December appeared to show an explosion reportedly from an industrial area in Zulia state. Yet, the footage or the site in question has not been independently verified.

An source reportedly told a media outlet that the former president was referring to a drug facility in his comments.

Response and Current Strategic Posture

The Caracas administration has issued no statement on the incident Trump referenced. Furthermore, there have been no verified accounts from within the country regarding it.

The buildup of American forces in the region – a posture certain officials have called a naval quarantine – marks the largest maritime enforcement action of the Trump era.

Administration officials have stopped short from describing the operation as a full blockade, but have stated that about 15,000 personnel are stationed across the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf, including a carrier strike group, F-35 aircraft, and Coast Guard cutters to enforce existing economic sanctions.
